Each year, I have the privilege of welcoming thousands of students to Zetech University, young individuals filled with excitement, uncertainty, and hope as they step into a new chapter of their lives. A recurring question I encounter is: What course should I pursue, and which university is the right fit for me?
At first glance, the decision may seem straightforward. However, behind it lies an intersection of emotional, academic, financial, and societal considerations. A recent study revealed that over 40% of students consider switching their degree programme within their first year, often because they made hurried decisions, followed friends, or lacked a proper understanding of the course and its outcomes.
To guide students and families in making more informed choices, consider the following key factors when selecting a course and university.
Know yourself
The most successful students are those who pursue what they genuinely enjoy. Instead of succumbing to peer pressure or family expectations, ask yourself: What am I passionate about? What am I naturally good at? What problems do I want to solve in society?
Choosing a course that aligns with your strengths and interests is not just idealistic—it is a strategic move. At Zetech University, we offer open career days, career counselling and mentorship to help students explore their aptitudes and make confident academic choices. Through one-on-one sessions, psychometric assessments, career talks, and guidance forums, our students are empowered to understand their abilities, explore diverse fields, and choose courses that not only match their interests but also align with emerging market needs.
Think beyond today
In a world shaped by technological disruption and innovation, students must look ahead. The World Economic Forum projects that 44% of current skills will be disrupted by 2027. Programmes in data science, AI, health, tech, and renewable energy are increasingly in demand.
However, this does not mean abandoning traditional disciplines—it means approaching them with a future-ready mindset. Zetech University embeds innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy across all programmes, ensuring that students graduate with practical skills, not just theoretical knowledge.
Curricula are developed in consultation with industry leaders and regularly reviewed to reflect real-world demands. From coding in non-tech courses to integrating sustainability and emerging technologies into traditional sectors, ensuring students are not only employable today but adaptable to the uncertainties of tomorrow.
Prioritise accreditation and credibility
Always verify if a university is accredited. Accreditation ensures an institution meets national and international standards. Many families have faced disappointment after enrolling in unaccredited institutions. At Zetech University, all our programmes are approved by the Commission for University Education (CUE), and several have additional sectoral recognition, like in programmes such as Nursing.
However, accreditation alone should not be the only benchmark when choosing a university. Prospective students and parents should look deeper at the institution’s industry linkages, the strength of its alumni network, and the real-world outcomes of its graduates. Zetech University continues to cultivate strong partnerships with leading organisations, both locally and internationally, to provide students with internship opportunities, industry exposure, and job placements.
Consider the learning environment
University life extends beyond academics. The learning environment should foster curiosity, leadership, and personal growth. Zetech University invests in innovation hubs, laboratories, libraries, and student wellness initiatives because we believe learning happens in and out of class.

Visit campuses, interact with current students, and evaluate whether the institution nurtures both mind and character. It calls for reading beyond glossy brochures. Most importantly, it requires students to listen to their aspirations and match them with accurate, reliable information.
Plan financially and strategically
Education is a significant investment. Zetech University offers scholarships, flexible fee plans, and access to government loans, ensuring no qualified student is left behind. But families must also assess the return on investment. Will the course lead to meaningful work or open doors to further study or entrepreneurship?
In conclusion, choosing the right course and university requires more than following the crowd. It demands reflection, research, and responsibility. And if that journey leads you to Zetech University, know that your future is in good hands.
