Police in Gatundu South retrieved the bodies of a middle-aged woman and a young boy from Thiririka River Falls.
According to Sub-County Police Commander Jane Makena, officers received a call from a boda boda operator reporting that the bodies of a woman, about 30 years old, and a boy, about four years old, had been spotted trapped in the river.
“Officers led by the DCIO visited the scene and found two bodies lodged in the water, about five metres apart. The woman had deep cuts on the forehead, injuries on the knee, and bruises on the legs, while the boy’s forehead was swollen,” Makena said.
The bodies were taken to General Kago Funeral Home for identification and further examination by the homicide team.
It is suspected that the bodies could be those of Virginia Njeri and her two-year-old son, Adrian Mejja, from Kinyona, Murang’a County, who went missing on Tuesday, August 12, from their home in Githurai 44.
Earlier, social media had been awash with missing person alerts showing photos of Virginia Njeri and her son. Digital creator Simon Mwangi Muthiora posted on Facebook, urging fellow content creator Karangu Muraya to verify if the bodies recovered matched the missing persons.
“Contact the OCPD in Gatundu South. The clothes on the boy’s body appear similar to those in the missing person photos,” Muthiora wrote.
He also asked Karangu to repost the alert, indicating that Virginia and Adrian had disappeared from Githurai 44 on August 12.
Investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
